thinking about the person i want to be
ultimately i can only compare me to
people i've seen and people i've known
and people who've changed and people who've grown
so i'll write a song like the one i just heard
and i'll filter my thoughts as i look for the words
i can bear to let go i can bear to make known
so i won't be afraid to call them my own
you're scared if you speak that they'll notice in time
there's quite little substance beyond all the rhyme
just carefully calculated forms of expression
meant to conceal and subvert your depression
as you look through your eyes at reflections no mirrors
your ego it breaks leaving only your fears
and you now see the world as you think it to be
losing the truth in subjectivity
i'm tired of the thoughts and i'm sick of the feeling
that all that i am is false and it's fleeting
i'm afraid of being vulnerable afraid of being real
afraid of confronting what i don't wanna feel
you're tired of the thoughts and you're sick of the feeling
that all you have known is false and it's fleeting
so you're scared of the world and you're scared of what's real
you're scared of your eyes and what they might reveal
